Super Sonja Has Been Promoted!
Sonja Ling, our Magnolia Coordinator, has been promoted to Assistant
Director. Aside from being one super CoolMom, Sonja is a wiz at the
eco stuff. She is humble, so we will toot her horn for her! Prior to
becoming a mother of two, Sonja completed her graduate studies in
environmental change and management at the University of Oxford, where
she focused her research on the off-grid solar photovoltaic market in
the Chinese province of Qinghai. After returning to the US, she began
work at the Renewable Northwest Project in Portland, Oregon as a
policy associate promoting solar, wind and geothermal energy in the
Pacific Northwest. WOW! you could say she knows her stuff!

Help Bag the Bag in Seattle! NEW DATE
Join CoolMom.org on July 8, sign in at 6:30pm pm, at City Hall in Council Chambers
(2nd floor) to support Mayor's proposal on BAGS & FOAM.
WHEN: Juuly 8, sign up starts 6:30pm, main part starts at 7pm.
WHERE: City Hall, Council Chambers, 600 4th Ave. 2nd Floor
Contact: RSVP to Kirsten McCaa, kirsten@coolmom.org
The Scoop:
On April 9, Mayor Nickels and Council President Conlin announced a
proposal to create a 20-cent fee on both paper and plastic bags in the
city's grocery, drug and convenience stores. They also unveiled a plan
to ban foam containers in all restaurants and coffee shops. The bag
fee is expected to dramatically reduce the number of disposable bags
that go to the landfill or litter our community. We know that every
piece of plastic ever manufactured uses energy and is still with us,
and the best way to save a ton of climate pollution and dispose of a
ton of waste is not to create it!
This is not a done deal and we want a HUGE group to show our support
for this proposal! You group coordinators will email you a list of
talking points and the game plan one week prior to the event. We want
as many moms as possible. This is our chance to make something with
IMPACT HAPPEN. Please mark the date! Kiddies are welcome. More info
here.

are recruiting more walking school bus volunteers and planning an

provided at Lawton elementary on May 30. Walking School Bus stop signs

parade, local food, our Walking School Bus grant...
---------------------------------------------------
Greenwood CoolMoms are focusing on food and connecting with
farmers. Sounds fun! They are shopping at the farmers markets and are
trying to walk or take the bus to the market; they are joining CSAs.
Community Supported Agriculture programs are a way for the food buying
public to create a relationship with a farm and to receive a weekly
basket of produce. By making a financial commitment to a farm, people
become "members" of the CSA and receive a weekly share of the produce.
Next Meeting:
When: Thurs, June 19, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Where: Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St
Contact: Carrie Barnes: Carrieb2008@gmail.com, or Brooke Doyle, brookedoyle@yahoo.com
Room is in the basement - please look for signs. They are
experimenting with locations as they get a feel for regular group size
and meeting needs.

West Seattle CoolMoms are thrilled to have Meg Gluckman from Seattle
City Light at their next meeting to give tips about how they can curb
global warming through home energy conservation and then will give out
"green goodies" (think CFL's, not cookies!). Feel free to stay for a
brief session after the meeting adjourns to break out with our action
teams. Action teams have been formed to work on Policy Change: Terri
Glaberson, Transportation: Kristina Surface and Education: Amy Eby &
