Think Outside the Car Kick-Off, a Success!

On April 28th, CoolMom and Westside School hosted our first Think Outside the Car event promoting Walking School Buses, Bike Programs and No-Idle Campaigns in West Seattle elementary schools.

Think Outside the Car

CoolMom was joined by bikers and walkers of all ages. The day began with bicycle decorating, festive live music from BottleRockit and a bicycle rodeo courtesy of Cascade Bicycle Club. Children were busily decorating their bikes for two of our bike parades where we gave out prizes from Alki Bike and Board to the best dressed bicycles.

Many visitors took part in getting their Undriver License pledging to walk, bike or ride to travel to work, school or run their errands.

The Feet First Chicken was on hand to give safety tips on how to travel by foot and if you were lucky you caught her dancin' a jig with BottleRockit! It was quite a show.

To quench the little one's thirst after bike decorating and some mad pedaling during the parade, we served donated Organic Valley milk. For the hungry bellies of all ages, delicious food was sold by Lumpia World and Athena's. Some said Athena's served the best Gyro's in town and if you didn't get a taste of the sweet potato lumpia, you missed an amazing treat!

Families that attended the event also donated 13 bikes to Bike Works! Thank you to the West Seattle Community!

Big Thank you's go out to Westside School, all our volunteers and organizations that tabled the event!

Please contact CoolMom if you would like to help volunteer for Think Outside the Car.
