Unplug and Camp Out Event- a Success!
On June 20 & 21, West Seattle CoolMoms, Dads and Kids had a great time at Camp Long. Our Cool Families unplugged their houses and had some
camping good fun at Camp Long while sharing food, enjoying outdoor
activities, listening to Ranger Jim tell us the first Mount Rainier
Summit Story and a regular ole' campfire with s'mores too boot! The weather cooperated and we all had a great time exploring the woods
and playing in the field. Some even climbed the Sherman Rock Wall as
part of their outdoor adventure.
The thought behind the Unplug and Camp Out came from our very own
brilliant mind of Laura Elfline, West Seattle CoolMom Coordinator. She thought
why not turn off our non-essentials and camp out and see how much
electricity is saved. The experiment worked. My
family cut our electricity use in half going from approximately
12kwh/day to 6kwh/day. The question that comes to mind is what can we live without, maybe a clothes dryer
for a weekend, a t.v., a second refrigerator, cutting that shower time in half. There are many answers
to this question. So, camp out with your family on a weekend and see
what you can save.
Thank you to all the participating families and for bringing such yummy food. It
was a pleasure meeting you all and looking forward to continuing this
tradition next year!
